How to Measure Ready-Made Curtains

How to measure the window width for curtains: the total width of the rod from finial to finial

Measure the full usable width of your curtain rod or track and the finished drop you need—not your existing curtain.

Ready-Made Curtain Lengths

  • Standard Length220cm

  • Extra Length250cm

Important: Sold as 1 Drop

Every Linen and Co ready-made curtain is sold as 1 Drop, not as a pair. The quantity selected is the number of individual curtain panels you will receive.

Wider windows, sliding doors, sheers and fuller finishes may require additional drops.

How to Measure

  • Measure the full width of your rod or track
  • Allow 1.5 to 2 times the track width for a fuller, gathered look
  • Measure drop from the top of the rod or track to where you want the curtain to finish
  1. 1. Confirm Your Hanging System

    • Eyelet curtains: Slide directly onto a compatible curtain rod.
    • Taped curtains: Hang from hooks on a compatible track, rail or rod-and-ring system.
  2. 2. Measure the Rod or Track Width

    • Measure the full usable width of the curtain rod or track.
    • For rods, measure between the finials and exclude the decorative end caps.
    • Do not measure only the window glass or frame.
  3. 3. Calculate Fabric Width and Quantity

Ready-made curtain widths vary by range. Check the selected product for its exact width per drop before calculating your quantity.

For a properly gathered finish, aim for a total fabric width of approximately 1.5 to 2 times the full rod or track width. Sheer curtains generally look best closer to 2 times the width.

    • 1.Multiply the rod or track width by your chosen fullness.
    • 2.Divide that total by the selected curtain's width per drop.
    • 3.Round the answer up to the next whole number.

Required drops = total fabric width needed ÷ width per drop

Always round up so the curtain has enough fabric to form folds instead of being pulled flat.

  4. 4. Measure the Finished Drop

    • Eyelet curtains: Measure from the top of the curtain rod to where you want the curtain to finish.
    • Taped curtains: Measure from the track or hook position to the desired finished length.
    • Check for skirtings, heaters, furniture, handles and uneven floors.
